A ballet flat is the flat shoe cut low across the instep, with no heel and no fastening. Crystals, rhinestones and studs are applied, not printed, and that has a practical consequence. They hold the light far better than a print and do not fade, but they are also the only part of the shoe that can come off. Dust them dry with a soft brush, never wet them, and keep the shoes that carry them in their dust bag: it is the other shoes, rubbing inside the wardrobe, that knock them loose.
Among the sandals the practical difference is the material of the strap. The rubber slide, the so-called jelly, washes under running water, fears neither sand nor salt water and gets through a whole summer without maintenance; the leather or suede sandal with a strap holds the foot better and can be worn in the evening, but must be kept dry and stored flat. The bags are told apart by how they are carried, not by capacity: handheld with short handles, over the shoulder with an adjustable strap, crossbody in the small evening format. Fringed versions and animal-print ones should be brushed in the direction of the pile and must never be stored squeezed between other bags, because a crease set while standing still never comes out.
