Sebago Size Guide: How Docksides and Boat Shoes Fit
Sebago moccasins and boat shoes are among the most requested styles in our footwear department, both in our Merate shop and online. The question we hear most often is always the same: "do Sebago run large or small?". In this guide you'll find the answer by model family, the size conversion chart, and advice from our staff to help you choose the right size on your first purchase.
How do Sebago shoes fit?
Sebago is an American brand and its sizes originate in US measurements: on our site you'll already find the conversion to EU sizes, so you can choose your usual number directly. Fit, however, varies by model family:
- Boat shoes (Docksides) – the brand's most iconic style, and also the one with the most generous fit: if this is your first Sebago purchase, we recommend going half a size down from your usual size. If you prefer a looser fit, your normal size works fine too.
- Classic moccasins (Classic Dan, Classic Will, Dan Po Lt) – true to size: choose your usual number. They're made of unlined full-grain leather, so the first few wears can feel a little stiffer: the leather softens with use and moulds to your foot.
- Lace-up moccasins and derbies (Ranger, Koala, Acadia, Harper) – true to size; half a size down for a narrow or slim foot, half a size up for a wide one.
- Ankle boots (Tala) – true to size; if you plan to wear them with a thick sock, consider going half a size up.

How to measure your foot in 3 steps
- Stand with your heel against a wall, weight evenly distributed on both feet, ideally at the end of the day (the foot is slightly more swollen then).
- Mark the tip of your longest toe on a sheet of paper on the floor and measure the distance from the wall in centimetres, adding 3-5 mm of margin.
- Compare the measurement with the chart above, choosing the size equal to or immediately above it.

Do Sebago shoes run large?
It depends on the model: Docksides boat shoes do, and for first-time buyers we recommend half a size down. Classic moccasins and lace-up models, on the other hand, are true to size.
I always wear one size but the model I want doesn't have it: can I go half a size up or down?
In most moccasins and lace-up styles, yes, especially if you have a narrow foot (half a size down) or a wide one (half a size up). If you'd like a precise check, message us in chat naming the model: we'll check the specific fit of the pair you're interested in.
Does the leather stretch with wear?
Yes: Sebago moccasins are made of unlined full-grain leather, so they can feel stiffer at first. With the first few wears the leather softens and adapts to the shape of your foot.
