Emilia mahogany and talc with straps

Sangiorgio women's Mary Jane shoes in two-tone glossy leather, mahogany and ivory, with double strap. The Mary Jane is a closed shoe with a strap that crosses the instep and fastens with a buckle. Here there are two straps: the first across the instep, the second a little further forward, on the upper part of the vamp. Both have the buckle on the outer side, in antique gold-finish metal. They are made of glossy leather in a lighter, warmer brown than the mahogany, so they stand out from the upper without breaking the color palette. The vamp is cut wide, leaving much of the instep bare, while the straps hold the shoe to the foot. The toe is finished with a swallowtail detail: the mahogany section ends in two wings that extend along the sides. Decorative perforations of alternating sizes (brogue detailing) run along the edges. The same pattern repeats at the heel, where the mahogany rises in a semicircle above the ivory. All panel edges are finished with a zigzag edge. The leather has a glossy, crinkled finish (naplak): the surface has small irregular creases that break up the reflections, giving each pair a slightly different look. Inside, the lining is cognac-colored leather and the insole is padded leather, stamped with the brand name and the Made in Italy mark. Being a shoe open at the instep, it's often worn without socks or with a thin sock: the leather lining absorbs moisture better than a synthetic lining. The sole is lightweight rubber, thick, with an irregular-grain tread that grips well on smooth surfaces. The heel is barely raised and separated from the sole by a groove. The thick sole keeps this Mary Jane out of 'doll shoe' territory and makes it suitable for everyday wear. It works well with sheer tights in mahogany or cream tones under midi skirts and knit dresses, or with ribbed socks and ankle-length straight trousers that leave the two straps on display.
