The loafer is the closed shoe without laces: it slips on and off without using your hands, and here the vamp strap is the only raised construction element, cut wide and free of decoration. What sets this model apart is the treatment of the toe. The leather is gathered into vertical pleats that start from the edge of the vamp and fan out toward the forefoot: this isn't an applied decoration but the way the upper is constructed, and the pleats stay alive, shifting as the foot flexes. Nappa leather is tanned to stay as soft as fabric. It has a yielding hand and an uneven sheen, deeper at the heel and lighter on the raised folds of the toe: the oak brown color is never uniform and deepens with wear. That's why this shoe needs no breaking in — it adapts to the shape of the foot from the very first wears.
