Vic Matiè women's over-the-knee boot, L42 Edge model, in leather and black stretch synthetic nappa. The cuissard is the boot that rises past the knee onto the thigh: it's the style where the shaft, not the shoe, is the statement piece. The shoe's upper is soft black leather with a leather lining, while the shaft is made from a stretch synthetic nappa: it hugs the leg with no zips or laces, slips on like a stocking and doesn't require the circumference adjustment that a rigid leather shaft demands. That's also why this model fits calves of different sizes. Draping is what sets this boot apart from a smooth, fitted cuissard: the shaft is built with horizontal folds that gather along the leg and stay in place even once the boot is worn. The extra volume is intentional, not a fit flaw. The heel measures 70 mm and is covered to match, with a shaped block profile: a mid height that elongates the leg while keeping a wide, stable base. The sole is made from Coria, an elastomeric compound that combines the flexibility of rubber with the stability of leather: lighter and more cushioned than a leather sole, sturdier than a soft rubber one. Made in Italy. The cuissard calls for a short or fitted pairing: with a mini skirt or an above-the-knee dress, only the top section of the leg is left bare, which is the proportion this model is designed for. It doesn't work with trousers, because the draped shaft needs to be seen in full. Worn over black opaque tights, an all-black look elongates the figure seamlessly.
