Utah ocean blue velvet

MRP Star Utah sneaker, the winter version of the Pure model: same vintage running silhouette, but with an upper built from warmer, more structured materials — suede, velvet, technical fabric and leather, combined in different proportions depending on the colorway — in place of the fabrics designed for mid-season wear. The construction recalls 1970s running shoes: suede overlay panels on toe and heel, a contrasting band running diagonally across the side, and the brand logo embroidered on the tongue and printed on the heel.

The sole combines rubber and EVA: EVA forms the midsole and absorbs the impact of each step while staying lightweight, while rubber is reserved for the outsole, designed with star-shaped lugs for grip on asphalt and smooth surfaces. Inside, a removable memory foam insole adapts to the shape of the foot and can be taken out for drying or replacement — an uncommon detail on a sneaker in this range, where the insole is almost always fixed.

Each box includes two or three pairs of different laces, varying in color, material or length depending on the model: an animal-print or contrasting lace brings out the sporty character of the shoe, while a tonal one makes it easier to pair with a more understated outfit. This is the same spirit running through the whole Utah model — a mix of sport and glamour among solid colors, velvets and metallic or animal-print details — the same hybrid aesthetic of 1990s American TV shows, Melrose Place above all, where the tracksuit and the cocktail dress share the same closet.

It works with straight-leg jeans and a sweatshirt just as well as with tailored trousers, and it's the kind of sneaker that holds up both for a day at the office and a night out, simply by switching the laces to suit the occasion.
